Cement Mixers and Asphalt Trucks Play a Pivotal Role in Large Scale Building Jobs

Concrete is a pretty basic substance. Simply mix cement, an aggregate (like rocks or gravel), and water. Do this in the proper proportions and you'll have a mixture that can be poured into a variety of molds to become a hard concrete slab. Just about every commercial building project uses concrete for the foundation, and many builders are constructing parts of buildings using pre-cast pieces of concrete. Roadways and bridges, sidewalks and pool decks - they are all built out of concrete, and cement mixing trucks and cement mixers enable construction crews to easily mix this versatile building component. Asphalt spraying units are similar in purpose to a cement mixer, they simply distribute a different material. These are frequently used to deliver the final surface layer for roadway jobs.

What is Available on the Market Today?

Cement trucks, also called mixer trucks, serve one purpose - to transport premixed concrete to a local destination. Cement trucks aren't long haul units - they are designed to leave the cement plant and be at their intended destination within minutes or hours, not days. Once a batch of cement is mixed inside the large rotating drum of the cement truck, the only way to get it out is to bring it to a jobsite and dump it either directly into the workspace or into the hopper of a concrete pump. This requires a reliable and trustworthy vehicle to ensure quick delivery of premixed materials.

Mack Trucks is famous for its durable and reliable line of mixer trucks. These units have been mixing and delivering concrete for decades. Many models are available with massive diesel engines, multiple speed transmissions (like their seemingly bulletproof 9-speed design), heavy-duty triple axles, and 10-yard mixing drums. 10 yards of concrete typically weighs over 39,000 pounds, so the rear axle configuration and load rating is important to identify prior to considering a vehicle.

Asphalt trucks are similar in design to cement trucks, but deliver a different material. Asphalt is a byproduct of crude oil, and is mixed with a variety of base materials (typically crushed mineral aggregate) to create asphalt cement. This heated slurry is applied to prepared roadbeds and creates the surfaces that we call highways, runways, and most city streets. Freightliner is a major manufacturer of asphalt trucks, and typically offers Cummins diesel motors, high capacity asphalt tanks, and heavy-duty axles. Those in the market for an asphalt truck will be well served with a Freightliner unit.
