Refrigerated Trucks Keep Perishables Fresher, Longer!

The original refrigerated truck, or reefer, saw production in the latter part of the 1800's. These early trucks used blocks of ice to maintain cooler in-truck temperatures, and were designed for short to medium distance hauling duties. Though they helped keep perishables fresh for much longer than a standard truck, these vehicles were rudimentary at best. Fast-forward over a hundred years and drivers today are able to purchase a truly world-class refrigerated truck. Modern reefers combine the latest in heavy-duty truck engineering with sophisticated cooling systems that can keep perishable items well protected.
What Are The Most Popular Makes of Refrigerated Trucks For Sale Today?

Americans seem to have an insatiable demand for fresh produce and meats, and refrigerated trucks are vitally needed to transport these perishables across the nation. Two of the most prolific makers of reefer trucks are International and Freightliner. These two manufacturers represent a big share of the market, and each offer a complete line of rugged, reliable, and high performance heavy-duty reefer trucks.

International's 4300 line of heavy-duty reefer trucks incorporate cutting edge technology and proven components that deliver outstanding results. These trucks are usually equipped with International's own MaxxForce diesel motor that boasts serious horsepower and torque, as well as innovative design features. Other motors that are available are the International DT466, which generates over 255 horsepower, or the DT466E, which generates a little less horsepower but still offers sizeable torque figures.

Freightliner offers its legendary Business Class M2 chassis in a superb reefer unit. These trucks are frequently fitted with Cummins engines, though motors from Mercury and Caterpillar are also available. The Cummins ISB and ISC series of power plants are legendary for their durability, and offer power ratings from 200-260 horsepower. These trucks boast Allison transmissions, heavy-duty leaf spring chassis, and are available with several box lengths. One of the most common versions of the Business Class M2 is the 216" wheelbase unit with a 20' box. This is a terrific medium-duty truck that is well suited for short to medium length trips, as well as longer distance hauls.
